How romantic is this? My mother’s family rented and even owned this cottage on Big Lake for a short time. She was staying here when she met my father.
She and he rented it when they were first married. Friends came by for a “belling,” where they roust you out of your bed on your wedding night, but Mom and Dad had already escaped to a boat they rowed out into the lake. They could hear the ruckus on shore.
We saw that the windows have been taken out. Probably being salvaged. The cottage has been unlivable for a long time, but it will be sad to find it gone some day.
The shore in front of the cabin. It used to be sandy. We swam at the public beach here when I was a kid.
There were lots of geese hanging out on the old beach, which is now grassed over.
